NeuroGraphica® is a creative method that combines art and psychology to help individuals access their subconscious thoughts and emotions through drawing.
It's designed to promote self-discovery, stress reduction, and personal growth.
Pavel Piskarev developed NeuroGraphica® as a tool to engage the brain's neural networks and promote relaxation and self-awareness.
Practitioners of NeuroGraphica® use structured drawing techniques to explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges in a visual way. The process involves creating lines on the page that are believed to activate various cognitive processes and stimulate the brain in unique ways.
Whether working individually or in a group, each participant will have a specific topic in mind – something they'd like to change, remove, or improve about themselves or their surroundings. We'll take a few minutes to focus on this chosen topic before starting the drawing process. Rest assured, I'll guide you through each step, so you don't need to worry about your artistic skills.
As we draw (I'll often demonstrate alongside), your mind will naturally explore different aspects of your chosen topic.
At certain points during the drawing, I'll invite you to take a moment and reflect on how you're feeling both emotionally and physically.
Once our drawings are complete, many participants find that they have a different emotional and physical perspective on their chosen topics. We'll take a moment to discuss and reflect on this.
That's all there is to it!
While both NeuroGraphica® and Neuro Art may look similar to the viewer, NeuroGraphica® specifically refers to Pavel Piskarev’s structured drawing method aimed at self-discovery, whereas Neuro Art is a more general term encompassing various artistic approaches that many find help promote a meditative state, much like Zentangle®.
NeuroGraphica® is a specific, 8-step technique involving systematized drawing exercises that engage neural networks in the brain and facilitate self-discovery. As the artist is drawing, he is encouraged to focus on his own thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations to connect with his subconscious knowledge and experience. As a part of the creation process, the artist is asked to draw conclusions or focus on what he has learned from the process. The emphasis is on the act of drawing and the psychological benefits that can arise from this form of creative expression. NeuroGraphica® sessions are often guided by a practitioner or instructor who provides prompts and techniques for participants to follow.
"Neuro Art" is a broader term that encompasses various artistic practices that are influenced by neurological or psychological concepts. It can refer to any form of art that engages with the brain, emotions, or cognitive processes. Neuro Art may include visual arts, music, literature, and other creative mediums. For example, some artists might explore the relationship between brain activity and creativity through their artwork. Others might use art as a means of expressing emotions, thoughts, or experiences related to mental health. The term "Neuro Art" doesn't necessarily denote a specific technique or method like NeuroGraphica® does; instead, it represents a broader category of creative expression that is influenced by neurological and psychological factors.
During a flight from Russia to Israel on April 29, 2014, Russian Architect Pavel Piskarev conceived the NeuroGraphica® method.
NeuroGraphica® the term, was coined by combining “neuro” for the brain and its neural connections and “graphic” meaning related to visual art. Professor Piskarev began teaching this new method immediately within his local community. Soon he founded the Psychology of Creativity Institute in Russia and began teaching the method to instructors who spread the word. The growth of NeuroGraphica soon moved beyond Russia, as Russian-speaking people, living in other parts of the world began taking his courses.
In 2022, the first Instructor’s Certification Course in English graduated its first class.
The genesis of NeuroGraphica® drew upon the insights of numerous distinguished predecessors, spanning fields such as psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, and coaching, all of which Professor Piskarev expertly interwove.
